No Child Without a Birthday
Hello everyone,
Today I was looking through some photos of the children and came across one that made me laugh. Let me tell you why.
Our children do not know their dates of birth, and the few relatives they still have do not remember them either. I imagine that, living in extreme poverty, they have much more important things to worry about.
One day I took all the children to the registry office so they could get identity cards. I had to make up a birthday for each of them—fortunately, I have a good imagination!
I believe that every child deserves to be the center of attention at least once a year, to have a birthday cake, and to blow out the candles.
The photo that made me laugh is the one you can see at the top of the blog. I am not particularly fond of celebrating my own birthday, but the children were so excited to celebrate it with me. They dressed me in a sari, placed a crown on my head, and decorated the room with lots of balloons.
When I looked at myself in the mirror wearing the sari and the crown, I burst out laughing! I blew out the candles, we shared a chocolate cake, turned the music up loud, and danced together. We really had a wonderful time.
I wish you all a wonderful summer.
Namaste,
Christiane
