Back to India with Celine
Hello everyone,
This month, I’m sending you many warm greetings from India. I was quite surprised by how incredibly hot it still is here!
Celine, a 19-year-old German volunteer, came to visit. She’s a delightful young woman, and this is her first time in India. We had some matters to attend to, so we spent a few days in New Delhi. Celine was completely astonished, which didn’t surprise me at all. This bustling city with its 25 million inhabitants is total chaos—a whirlwind of crowds, children begging, doing acrobatics in front of stopped cars, cleaning windshields, or selling balloons. It’s heartbreaking to see children working instead of going to school. You also see elderly people sleeping on the sidewalks, which truly breaks my heart.
Delhi is teeming with cars, buses, rickshaws, bicycles, and the constant honking, loud noises, and terrible dirt and pollution can be quite exhausting. Growing up in a serene German village, I have a preference for silence, so the chaos of Delhi can be overwhelming.
Currently, Celine and I are on the train to Khajuraho, where the children live. It’s about 750 km away. We’re looking forward to seeing how the little angels are doing.
More soon. Namaste,
Christiane
