UNBELIEVABLE
Namaste to all of you!
How are you doing? Two things I found very much unbelievable and totally amazing! First, there is no way that I will be coming home any time soon since every day they change the precautions and rules. I really don’t know what to do about it, I guess some day the situation will be resolved and I will be able to come home.
Thankfully, with all of your help Childsrights continues to give food to many poor families! The second situation which I think is unbelievable. I met an elderly woman we call Mrs. Haldi, who lives alone under a tree. She is 104 years old! In India retirement does not exist for old people, the state provides not more than 4€ per month and if you don’t have any family to rely on there is no other option but to continue working. Mrs. Haldi sells magazines and prepares Chai (typical tea in India, made of milk, spices and lots of sugar). With those earnings she is trying to survive. It’s not a lot, she can’t even afford rent for a room, she has to sleep under a tree. When the confinement started in March she had to close her little business and I became aware of her situation. Childsrights took care of her daily meals and until now we pay her a visit every day. She is so adorable and every time you ask her how she is doing she answers: “ Very good, I am very well. Thank you!” She tells me that she has had 8 children and of course when someone becomes 104 years old it’s quite normal that you will survive your own children. She also has grandchildren but it seems like they are not too worried about her wellbeing. I understood that economically they are not very well situated.
Our children are still not able to go to school, but as I already explained in my last newsletter they are being home schooled by private teachers. It seems that it will be like this for a long time.
The rest is all the same, nothing new!
Take care and NAMASTE
Christiane, Children & Mrs. Haldi
