Little old Ladies
Hello dear friends and Godparents,
I´m back in Valencia again and while thinking about what to write you this month, I remembered the little old women I met in a tiny lost village in India.
They were sitting on the floor and I thought they looked somewhat sweet, so I asked them kindly if I could take their picture and they said yes if I gave them some money in exchange. They told me as well that they would not smile since their life wasn´t that great!
As soon as you become old in India it´s the family who takes care of you. If you have no family, there is no support. The state almost doesn´t take care of anything. If you are lucky you will receive 4€ a month.
Two of the women don´t have anybody to support them so they have to survive on the very little money they get from they begging.
Taking their picture, I was thinking: “My God these women have had such a hard life. No illusions what so ever. No anti-wrinkle cream, plastic surgery, not even a dentist who would pull a tooth. How could they think about such things if they are not even able to feed themselves?”
There are organizations that help the elderly with almost no resources and even though they won´t be able reach each corner in the world it is good to know they exist. People are very thankful for their work.
Many greetings and talk to you later! Nane
