Winter relief in India – a small gesture with great impact
Dear all,
A Spanish children’s song says: “Cold, cold, the cold has arrived. I put on gloves, a scarf and a little hat – I need to keep warm.”
Sadly, in India (and in many other parts of the world), there are people who do not have adequate clothing and are suffering greatly from the cold. Their homes usually do not have heating either. For this reason, Childsrights tried to raise additional funds to purchase blankets.
Our Indian partner Mahesh Ahirwar organized the purchase and personally distributed the blankets. A huge thank you to all donors – and especially to Mahesh!
Of course, this is only a drop in the ocean, but it is better than nothing. Seeing the great happiness on the faces of the people who received a warm blanket is difficult to put into words.
Our children have winter jackets, small heaters at home, and blankets at night to keep their little bodies warm.
Winter here usually begins in December and ends around mid to late February. So in the next newsletter, I will hopefully be able to write to you about warmer temperatures.
Finally, a small anecdote:
One of the little girls asked me, “Mom, do you like the cold or do you like the heat?” I answered, “Neither – I like moderate temperatures.” She replied cheerfully, “Yeees, that’s normal – that’s how older people feel.” I was quite surprised, especially since I still feel so young 😄
Warm regards and Namaste,
Christiane
